Nothing makes you feel more like Bella Swan from Twilight than waking up on a rainy day for your first day of school. The gray haze that beamed from my bedroom window filled my freshly opened eyes with a sense of dread. “Even the universe is crying because winter break is over” said the dramatic voice in my head. After being off from school for a whole month, I sensed myself becoming comfortable being comfortable. As someone always running around with a million items on my agenda, I certainly needed a little break. However, like candy or accessories, everything in life must be enjoyed in moderation. As much as I would love to continue sleeping in and spending the day at the mall, I definitely missed having a consistent routine.
A situation usually turns out a lot better than the negativity you conjure in your head. There is no surprise that once I angrily turned off my alarm and got my body out of bed, I quickly realized I genuinely enjoy getting ready for school. My energy picked up at the thought of fixing my hair and putting on my brand new “first day of school” outfit I thoughtfully set out the night before. After a sip of coffee and a swipe of mascara, I felt ready to take on the day. Even though the sun was covered by stubborn clouds, I wasn’t going to let the weather stop me from seeing the bright side. Here is a quick list of the positives to look forward to now that school is back in session:
Catching up with friends: school is instantly made better when you have people to crack jokes with in-between classes.
Free food: occasionally you'll find free food or coffee on campus during events.
Utilizing campus amenities: gym, game room, student lounges.
Social gatherings: club events, spirit week, school dances.
The good professor: everyone knows at least one professor that makes coming to school worth it just for the interesting class discussions.
Knowledge: kind of a given, but you’ll impress yourself with the new things you pick up when you pay attention in class.
Fashion: I love styling fun and functional outfits for school, and I’m not shy to give compliments when I spot a fellow fashionista.
Cherishable memories: even when you have a stressful class, bonding with your peers will become memories you’ll hold onto forever.
A new you: starting a fresh semester can kickstart your New Year's Resolutions now that you have a schedule.
The joy of the weekend: during the break, the weekends don't feel as special as when you have work and school.
I hope everyone takes a moment to find the bright side in the present instead of dreading a storm that hasn't come. I hope Charming Chatter starts your weekend off on a positive note! Good luck to everyone, and I cannot wait to share new charming stories with you all this semester.
