Five Things You Need For Fall

Some people love the summer heat because of the beach weather and flip-flops. Others enjoy making snow angels in fluffy winter snow. Many people sneeze up a storm as April showers and spring flowers bloom. But fall, oh beloved fall, eternally holds the title of the best season out of the bunch. Pumpkin picking and caramel apple-scented candles finally greet the fall season, bringing back the comfort and coziness we all desperately longed for. Read on to see the top five things you need to kickstart the fall season.

1. Collection of Spooky Books

Now that it’s fall, pop on the Fireplace for Your Home film on Netflix so you can enjoy a crackling fireplace via your laptop or television. Next, slip on some fluffy socks and your favorite throw blanket (preferably one with jack-o-lanterns on it). The only thing missing is a good book to complete the autumn ensemble. If you love all things spooky, read Edgar Allan Poe’s collection of Gothic Tales, or The Shining by Stephen King. If you’re an English junkie, whip out Macbeth by Shakespeare or Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. Every Halloween, I take a trip down memory lane and read through my favorite Halloween children’s book In a Dark, Dark Room, and Other Scary Stories by Alvin Schwartz and Dirk Zimmer ("The Green Ribbon" remains one of the most terrifying stories till this day).

2. Pumpkin Spice Recipes

This is beyond basic, I know. I’m not even a big pumpkin spice fan. Nonetheless, I get a pumpkin spice latte every year the first week it comes back in season. Big surprise, every year I’m greatly disappointed. This may spark controversy but I think pumpkin spice lattes taste like melted Bath and Body Works candles. Some people love it, and I commend you for being the ultimate fall queen. If you're like me, swap out the PSL and test out pumpkin recipes instead. Scones happen to be one of my favorite desserts to bake. I recently tried the Starbucks Pumpkin Scone Copycat recipe from the blog Cooking Classy. I received nothing but great reviews from my family and I guarantee you and your friends will love it too!

3. The Fall Flannel

Fall fashion allows us all to spiffy up our outfits with cute layers and accessories. Before you grab your Ugg boots and turtlenecks, make sure you have the perfect fall flannel. It should be illegal to go pumpkin picking without one. For the classic style icons: red flannels all the way. For the trendsetters: blue flannel, and for the comfy cutie, a brown flannel. For my fashion risk-takers, go for the pink flannel.

4. Horror Movie Bucket List

After watching Hocus Pocus for the millionth time, make some room in your schedule for new horror films! Here are some of my top favorite scary movies and ones that are on my horror movie bucket list for this fall.

My Top 5 Favorite

1. V/H/S 94: So creative, I watched all the movies in the V/H/S series. They were all interesting, but the newest film was incredible.

2. Hush: No movie has stressed me out more than Hush. Loved it.

3. The Autopsy of Jane Doe: It'll keep you guessing.

4. The Texas Chainsaw (1974): My favorite slasher film of all time.

5. Conjuring 1, 2, and 3: Personally, I loved all three.

Top 5 on my Bucket List

1. It Follows: Always advertised on Netflix.

2. Exorcist: Classic horror film series, I need to watch them.

3. The Grudge: Looks like a for sure way to spark nightmares.

4. Smile: Just came out. I will definitely scream more than smile while watching it.

5. Black Phone: Fairly new, very intriguing, and terrifying concept.
