When you live in a world with gimmicks and dramatic advertising, it's refreshing to find authenticity that does without the bells and whistles. Joe and Pat’s is a simple and quaint pizzeria you can turn to when you want quality pizza that speaks for itself. Opened since 1960, this ole-reliable pizzeria provides all you can ask for out of your dining experience, from their use of fresh ingredients, all the way to their top tier service and friendly wait staff. After recently visiting the original location on Victory Boulevard with my family, I quickly realized why Joe and Pat’s remains a staple, tried and true Staten Island favorite.
For an appetizer, we ordered crunchy fried calamari and a light salad to keep everything balanced. As for pizzas, we first taste-tested a white pie with ricotta and broccoli rabe, which may just be my new favorite combination. Nonetheless, their classic cheese pie was the star of the show. Pizzerias in New York are a dime a dozen; however, a Joe and Pat’s slice is a bite above the rest. Not only was the crust perfectly thin and crispy, but the sauce was good enough to drink. I also appreciated the moderate amount of mozzarella sprinkled on top because there’s nothing worse than chewing on globs of scorching hot cheese. All in all, it makes for the perfect foldable slice. And of course, you know it’s good pizza when it’s served on a paper plate. When it comes to pizza, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
They recently opened a location in Manhattan which I haven't tried yet, but it’s certainly on my radar! Next time you're in the mood for pizza, bring along your friends and family and head on over to Joe and Pat's!
Being a Brooklyn/Queens pizza snob, exposure to new perspectives is very healthy. Nice post.
